The gaming controls were the main selling point to me and I was pleasantly impressed by how the buttons were already mapped to my favourite emulator's on-screen buttons.
As with most other Android devices there are plenty of cool games in the Play Store, but the main reason I purchased the device was to play classic video games in an emulator. I am impressed with the Archos button mapping tool. That is after all one of the main reasons I love the Android platform and ecosystem. Tomorrow I'll disable the Tesco bloatware I don't want or need, and go all in on a customised experience that suits me best. As Simon Osborne tweeted, it is just a question of time before someone gets the Hudl 2 to dual boot Ubuntu as well.
The Hudl page at Tesco is here: Īt time of publishing, Paul O'Brien has let us know on Google Plus that he has managed to root the Hudl 2.
I have concerns over Tesco and Intel's plans to update firmware and OS after the Android L release, as this is unlikely to happen (I've been burnt in that area by the Orange San Diego and the original Hudl, but I hope they prove me wrong). HDMI output as well as storage expansion are a huge plus over my Nexus 7, especially when travelling. I will be using this as a daily driver, mainly for media consumption and light social networking. I would definitely recommend this tablet, as the few flaws it has are easily remedied with a few settings or app changes. For review purposes I tried to live as close to the Hudl experience as most Hudl buyers will (no system changes and a few extra apps). I've had almost a week with the Hudl 2 and enjoyed it. I don't have any hard data at the moment, but as time goes by my logs will be more complete and I'll be able to back this up with real data. In similar use to the way I use my Nexus 7 and original Hudl, the battery life seems to be lower. Hope I've helped.A chip with that much grunt seems to have an adverse effect on bettery life though. Disable only the apps you installed and you are perfectly sure won't affect your phone in any way. One reason I think this error appeared is because I disabled some apps and the phone warned me that things may go sideways so.moral of the story: don't disable apps that are already on your phone. Now it's working perfectly: it's still updated to 4.4.2, I have all my data, music and the rest Afterwards I went to Backup & reset and tapped on Factory data reset, tapped on Format phone storage and then, finally, hit Reset phone. From there I went to System Backup and backed up my data(contacts, call log, calendar etc) to my SD card. HOWEVER, I noticed that tapping and swiping down on the upper side of the screen allowed me to reach the Settings. Rebooted the phone, powered off and on, took out the battery but the error still appeared. Up untill this point the "Unfortunately the launcher has stopped working" message would appear only when I would try to edit the Desktop. Today I updated my Allview Viper L to 4.4.2.
